About the RoleThe Senior Risk Advisor is a member of the Clinical Governance team and works in close collaboration with the HSS groups and services at Wellington, Kenepuru and Hutt hospitals.
This role is accountable for supporting the administration of and overseeing the risk management programme on a day-to-day basis across Capital Coast and Hutt Valley (CCHV) district.
The primary purpose of the Senior Risk Advisor is to:
- Provide a high quality risk management service at CCHV. This will involve providing advice, reporting, training, guidance and practical activities such as risk assessments.
- Maintain and develop effective risk management initiatives, systems and practices to ensure that CCHV meets the AS/NZS ISO 31000:2018 Risk Management Standards.
- Provide information, enable analysis to learn how to actively eliminate or minimise risk.
- Assist senior leaders to ensure that all areas of the organisation understand, own and are accountable for these risk systems that are fully embedded in operational practice.
- Advocate and sponsor risk control and prevention strategies that will integrate risk management into everyday management.
- Develop and deliver a risk management training programme.
- Work in partnership with teams across Kenepuru, Wellington and Hutt Valley hospitals, and with regional and national teams.
- Ensure currency of knowledge in risk management and facilitate integration of new and emerging aspects within the CCHV, alongside the regional and national risk community.
Capital, Coast and Hutt Valley district have created a Centre of Clinical Excellence leading a programme of work to plan, develop and implement an integrated quality, safety and improvement function across the district.
About youSkills and experience we are looking for:
- Comprehensive knowledge and experience of risk assessment and risk management.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and standards, including the ISO 31000 Risk Management Standard, health and safety legislation, and health and disability services standards.
- Experience in providing training, team facilitation and coaching.
- Experience of designing training programmes would be desirable.
- Excellent interpersonal and networking skills, good oral/written communication skills and presentation skills.
- Evidence of successfully using project/improvement methodologies to lead improvement work.
- Experience in health sector would be an advantage although not essential.
- Risk management/governance qualification or equivalent experience would be desirable.
- Other relevant memberships such as RiskNZ.
- Evidence of training or self-directed learning in relation to quality and patient safety systems and quality improvement methodologies.
