Te Puna Aonui is looking for an experienced Senior Policy Advisor to join a multi-disciplinary and flexible team working establish and maintain strong relationships to influence others. Te Puna Aonui aims to build support and ownership for strategic direction, investment, funding and implementation activities that will help to eliminate family violence and sexual violence in Aotearoa.

Senior Policy Advisors are responsible for developing and/or leading the development of advice as part of a programme of work to help Te Puna Aonui achieve transformative change to eliminate family violence and sexual violence. We work in partnership across the family violence and sexual violence sector, alongside our Te Puna Aonui and broader government agency colleagues.

Education/Professional Qualifications And Technical Skills
  • a relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent knowledge, skills, and experience
  • prior experience at a Senior Advisor level in a central government policy context
  • a high level of cultural competency, including a good understanding of Te Tiriti and commitment to supporting diversity and inclusion through your work
  • excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to foster good relationships
  • excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Work Experience
  • demonstrable social policy experience at a Senior Advisor level
  • good networks and connections across the Public Sector and knowledge of the family violence and sexual violence sector
  • good working knowledge of Public Sector systems and processes
  • an understanding (or ability to develop an understanding) of the research and evidence base associated with family violence and sexual violence
  • sound knowledge of analysis and theory of Family Violence and Sexual Violence, including violence toward whānau (and/or a commitment towards learning and development in this area), is of benefit to all roles in Te Puna Aonui.

Te Puna Aonui is a small unit, with a big role. Established as an Interdepartmental Executive Board (IEB) our mandate is to ensure there is clear, joint accountability across government for work relating to the elimination of family violence and sexual violence.

The System Stewardship Group is the strategic thinker for the Family Violence and Sexual Violence system. We work in partnership with the Māori and Community Partnerships Group to inform the future direction and iterations of Te Aorerekura, associated action plans, and deeper policy development and/or advice across Government.

We are responsible for maintaining a whole of Family Violence and Sexual Violence system view and providing leadership to ensure its long-term sustainability, health and integrity through the development and effective use of the key functions within Te Puna Aonui.

Utu ā-tau/Salary

The appointing salary for this role will be between $110,766 and $154,680 based on skills and experience.
