Wellington, Wellington, New Zealand Community Connections Supported Living Trust Full time

We are seeking a dedicated Support Worker to join our vibrant and passionate organisation. At Community Connections, we believe in doing things collectively, driven by our unwavering passion for empowering people with disabilities to live the lives they choose.

About Us

We are a community-based disability support provider that operates across much of the North Island. Our Vision is of an inclusive New Zealand where people with disabilities are embraced as fully participating citizens, where barriers to inclusion are removed, and where all people are respected and valued for who they are.

We believe that people with disabilities can and should live the life they choose, on their own terms and within the community of their choice.

Community Connections is an Equal Employment Opportunities employer, and we love diversity in what we do and whom we employ. We are committed to Te Tiriti O Waitangi, the UN Convention for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the NZ Disability strategy. We encourage people with lived experience of disability, mental health, Maori, Pasifika, people from other backgrounds and/or from the LGBTQIA+ community to apply.

The Role:

We are looking for an exceptional individual who is passionate about empowering others and helping them reach their full potential. As a Support Worker, you will have an incredible opportunity to work closely with members of our community who have complex disabilities. Your role will be vital in guiding them towards independence and mastering essential life skills. This includes supporting them with various aspects of daily life, such as personal care, meal preparation, creating support plans, and managing household tasks.

This is a casual contract position that requires flexibility for weekends and sleepovers.

About You

To deliver the best care, we are seeking a support worker who can keep pace with a highly active individual who enjoys daily walks of 5 to 10 kilometres, swimming in both pools and the ocean, and maintaining an energetic lifestyle. Your exceptional time management and problem-solving skills will be invaluable as you navigate various situations. Experience working with individuals who display challenging behaviours is especially desirable, particularly if you have a solid understanding of autism and intellectual disabilities.

We are looking for a motivated team player who can follow support plans and help the individuals we serve live their best lives. Our goal is to create a workplace where everyone can thrive and contribute to the best of their abilities.

What we are looking for

  • Experience in personal care, particularly with individuals who have challenging behaviours, autism, and intellectual disabilities.
  • A strong understanding of positive behaviour support strategies.
  • The ability to follow support plans and collaborate effectively as part of a team.
  • A commitment to empowering individuals to live their best lives.

Why Join Us

At Community Connections, we provide a supportive team environment where you can work alongside like-minded individuals who are passionate about making a positive impact on the community we support. We believe in providing opportunities for growth and development and are committed to helping you achieve both personal and professional growth, including obtaining your Level 3-4 certificate in Health and Wellbeing.

We value your dedication and hard work, and in return, we offer a range of benefits, such as four weeks of annual leave, access to an Employee Assistance Program, a weekend rate, and various opportunities for training and professional development.

If you are looking for an opportunity to make a difference every day, we want you to join our team.

Please note

We require candidates to possess a valid FULL New Zealand driver's licence and the legal right to work in New Zealand. Additionally, candidates must be willing to undergo criminal and Oranga Tamariki checks and must hold a first-aid certificate. These criteria are essential for the nature of the role and the level of care and support we provide to our community. Therefore, we will only be shortlisting candidates who meet these requirements.
