ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION

ANTICIPATED OPENING

Title of Position: Maintenance Mechanic

Work Year: Twelve (12) Months

Effective Date of Employment: As soon as possible

Salary: Per the Collective Bargaining Agreement

Organizational Relationship or Line of Authority:
Directly responsible to the Director of Facilities and/or his/her designee in all matters pertaining to the building. Responsible to the Superintendent of Schools for all other matters.

Statement of Duties:

  • Perform a broad range of general maintenance activities to include, but not limited to, replacement of BCT, carpet tiles, ceiling tiles/grid work, window, or sash.
  • Provide a wide range of general carpentry services to include, but not limited to, installing slabs into existing frames, minor remodeling, and renovation work.
  • Perform preventative routine maintenance activities.
  • Maintain repair and maintenance records of all work performed.
  • Maintain inventory of equipment and supplies.
  • Attend seminars and workshops to stay informed of current practices and procedures in plant and equipment maintenance.
  • Abide by all transportation laws and maintain a safe driving record.
  • Assume responsibility for any other duties as indicated by the Director of Facilities, Superintendent of Schools, or his/her designee, and policies of the Haverhill School Committee.
  • Report to work during off hours as needed to perform routine tasks that must be completed on a modified schedule.
  • Report to work during off hours as needed for snow management (snow prep and removal to include the use of a snow blower) or building emergencies as determined by the Director of Facilities.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment.
  • Comply with all health and safety regulations.

Qualifications:

  • Proficient in MS Outlook, Word, and the use of a tablet.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to handle assigned work orders and maintain accurate records in a facilities work order database.
  • Must have a clean driving record.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 75 pounds.
  • Mastery of all basic hand and power tools, particularly table saws, circular saws, electric planes, etc.
  • Working knowledge of basic OSHA requirements and commitment to meeting the standards of safe work practices.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of continuous experience in the field of plant maintenance and building construction.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of preventative, operational, maintenance, building systems, and general repair practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of appropriate materials, equipment, and methods for proper maintenance of the interior and exterior of all buildings and grounds.
  • Such alternatives to the aforementioned qualifications as deemed appropriate by the Superintendent of Schools.
