The roleThis full-time, permanent position is based at Regional House, Palmerston North or our Kairanga Depot and is focused on leading a newly formed Environmental and Regulatory team who are committed to ensuring effective regulatory support for the Catchment Operations group including functions to input to Policy, Consent and Compliance matters for the group.
As a Team Leader you will be responsible for leading and mentoring the team and will work alongside other Team Leaders and the Freshwater and Projects Manager. You will coordinate and manage the Environmental and Regulatory team work programme and work on specific projects as required. In addition to this, you'll manage budgets, procurement and reporting for projects. A key focus for this role will be providing expert advice to the team, prioritising workloads and working with the Freshwater and Projects Manager to lead, grow and develop the team.

To be successful in this role you will have a relevant planning or natural science tertiary degree along with at least two years direct industry experience in a relevant environmental management/ regulatory management discipline. You will possess excellent relationship management skills and proven ability to communicate and engage with a range of internal and external stakeholders. Essential to this role is a full driver's licence, as the role involves getting out and about.
Ideally you will have a sound understanding of relevant legislation and NZ standards and their practical application, and proven experience leading and mentoring staff. Experience in regional government is highly desirable. Effective time management will be key and a high level of awareness of health and safety will be vital in this role.
