Executive Assistant to Regional Commissioner
1 month ago
Permanent full time opportunity available
Are you an experienced Executive Assistant looking for a dynamic and fast-paced role? This is an exciting opportunity to support the Regional Commissioner for Bay of Plenty, who leads the Ministry of Social Development's (MSD) activities in the region. This role involves managing both internal and external communications and services, providing input into the smooth operation of the regional office.
This role can be based in either Tauranga or Rotorua for the right candidate - travel will be required across the region when necessary.
About MSD
At MSD, our purpose is clear: We help New Zealanders to be safe, strong, and independent – Manaaki tangata, manaaki whānau. Our clients are at the heart of everything we do, our people are our greatest taonga, and Te Pae Tawhiti – our future guides our direction as an organisation.
About the Role
This is a busy and varied role that requires a proactive, highly organised individual who thrives in a fast-moving environment. The Regional Commissioner is frequently out of the office, so we need someone who can take initiative, keep things running smoothly, and confidently manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision.
As the Executive Assistant, you'll play a key role in:
- Office Management – Overseeing day-to-day operations, from onboarding new staff to fleet coordination.
- Diary & Travel Coordination – Managing schedules, emails, and travel arrangements efficiently.
- Event & Meeting Coordination – Organising events, preparing reports, and ensuring key meetings run smoothly.
- Confidentiality & Integrity – Handling sensitive information with professionalism and discretion.
- Stakeholder Engagement – Liaising with internal teams and external stakeholders to support MSD's work.
About You
We're looking for someone who is:
- Calm under pressure – Thrives in a busy environment and enjoys meeting deadlines.
- Proactive and perceptive—anticipates needs, takes initiative, and exercises sound judgment.
- Flexible & quick to learn – Adapts easily and stays ahead of challenges.
- Organised & energetic – Manages multiple tasks with efficiency and enthusiasm.
- A strong communicator & relationship builder – Engages well with a variety of people.
- Experienced in supporting senior leaders – Knows how to 'manage up' effectively.
- Familiar with government processes – Or willing to learn how the public sector operates.
If you're an ambitious and competent Executive Assistant ready for a new challenge, we'd love to hear from you
