Nurture and Thrive Children's Therapy Collective (CTC) is a private paediatric service working to improve the health and wellbeing of tamariki, rangatahi and their whānau across the Kāpiti Coast, Porirua, Wellington & Hutt Valley. We are a team of Occupational Therapists, Health Psychologists and Therapy assistants who provide in-clinic, school, community, and home-based therapy support. We work with young people aged 0-19 years of age with a range of differences in their development and who may have diagnosed disabilities including but not limited to: Autism, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Global Developmental Delay, Dyspraxia, Dysgraphia, Anxiety, Sensory Processing Disorder, Trauma, Learning Difficulties & Social/emotional Regulation Challenges.

Our referrals come from local and regional services, government agencies, schools, and directly via whānau too.

About the role

We are looking for a Therapy Assistant to join our team on a part time basis who is passionate, committed, hardworking, and flexible. We are open to full time, or contractor arrangements for the right applicant.

This role would be ideal for a student who is studying in an Allied Health profession or Education, and wants to expand their skills and experience in paediatrics. Or for a working professional from the disability sector who wants to join a team that is dedicated to the holistic wellbeing of disabled and ND young people, and their whānau.

The position will involve travel to schools, homes, out in the community and support onsite at our Therapy Clinics (Wellington & Kāpiti Coast). There is also flexibility in the role that allows you to complete administrative tasks, mentoring/supervision, and meetings from home.

Skills and experience

Our Therapy Assistants are responsible for providing additional support for Nurture and Thrive clients under the guidance and direction of their Occupational Therapist. Our Therapy Assistants play a vital role in progressing clients towards their goals by providing therapeutic support at home, school, the community or within group programs.

The following skill set would be highly valuable for this role:

  • Excellent communication, organization, and proven time management skills.
  • Ability to work as part of the team; including good written and interpersonal skills
  • Previous experience working with disabled or ND young people
  • Ability to build relationships with young people and support whānau
  • Motivation and desire to develop learning and skills
  • Excellent problem solving skills, and confidence engaging in the wider community with young people
  • Most importantly a kind, compassionate, and fun person who shares in our playful and engaging way of providing services to our clients and their whānau.

In addition any additional experience in the following areas would be highly desirable:

  • Experience collaborating or working with health professionals
  • Knowledge and understanding in regards to the use of strengths-based, ethical, and neuro-diversity-affirming practices to support autistic young people.
