About The Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a passionate environmental professional to join the Genesis team. As a Senior Environmental Advisor, you will play a key role in environmental management, providing technical leadership for Genesis Energy's existing and proposed electricity generation assets. This role would suit an all-rounder and includes resource consent acquisition, environmental management, and compliance. You will also foster and strengthen long-term, meaningful relationships with mana whenua, stakeholders, and local communities where we operate.

Reporting to our Environmental Policy and Planning Manager, your main responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting environmental management, consent acquisition, implementation, monitoring, and compliance at Genesis Energy's assets in alignment with our core business values and relevant statutory legislation.
  • Supporting the development and maintenance of positive, external relationships by engaging with regulatory bodies, resource users, environmental groups, interest groups, Iwi, hapū, mana whenua, and other stakeholders.
  • Managing consultants who provide environmental, technical, legal, and planning services to Genesis Energy.
  • Offering technical advice and leadership in response to planned works or environmental issues at Genesis Energy's generation assets, including statutory and compliance requirements, evaluating technical information, scoping additional information needs, and ongoing assessment of environmental effects.
  • Supporting the development of corporate environmental policies, strategies, and reporting requirements.
Please note that our preference is for the incumbent to be based at our Hamilton or Auckland office, but for the right candidate, we're open to other locations and can offer part-time hours if needed. Please note that the role will require a reasonable amount of travel.About You

You are a passionate environmental expert who thrives on collaboration, and you approach complex challenges with a positive, solutions-oriented mindset. You communicate effortlessly, whether you're leading a project, negotiating with stakeholders, or offering technical guidance.

What We're Looking For
  • A tertiary qualification in environmental/resource management, planning, or a related field.
  • Proven environmental management experience in a related industry, local/central government, or consulting.
  • A significant understanding of the Resource Management Act 1991, along with other statutory and planning processes.
  • Practical experience in project management and conflict resolution.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
