Senior Electrical Design Engineer

The Role:

Vessev is creating a new era of how we move on water, and we need a world-class electrical design engineer to join the crew. The role will be fast-paced and demanding and exceptionally rewarding for the right person.

The Electrical team is responsible for the design, prototyping and testing of all vessel electrical systems - i.e. what makes Vessev "electric". From preliminary architecture design, through to testing hardware and into full detailed electrical design of prototypes, this is your chance to get involved with category-defining technology and design for construction and mass manufacture.

You 're likely someone who has experience from the electrical, aerospace, or automotive industries. You do not need to be an expert on marine, hydrofoiling, or electric vehicles, but you do need to be intelligent, willing to muck-in, creative, and curious - this will have a much more significant impact on how you come up to speed on the technical details.

Internally, you will work with the Head of Electrical and the wider electrical team. The Electrical team works very closely with the Control Systems team, Platform team, and Hydrofoils team to ensure that all parts come together to make a world-leading product. We have the best talent on site - these are people who have built America's Cup boats and have extraordinary engineering experience - so the potential is there for you to harness. This is a role that will have plenty of scope to have a lasting impact, not only at Vessev but also the wider marine industry.

What your day could look like:Owning Electrical Design, not just Analysis

Our products span vessel scales from 9m to 18m and there are many elements of the electrical systems that you could own, such as lithium battery systems, drive systems or distribution. The electrical team also supports many other aspects of the business, such as development of shore side charging infrastructure and HITL test rigs.

You'll need to be comfortable with designing and analysing electrical systems, electrical CAD and harness design. You will need to interact with multi-discipline design and build teams to bring the complete product design to reality. Your scope of ownership can extend into build, manufacture, testing, and commissioning - plenty to find your spark.

Simplify Electrical Design

Being early on in our commercial production journey, progress is fast but iteration moves faster. There is significant scope to reduce component count and increase simplicity for production.

Showcase your Ingenuity

America's Cup boats win when they find loopholes in strict and lofty rules. The beauty at Vessev is that we are building vessels that do not have strictly defined rules. We need to ensure and be able to demonstrate safety, but we have significant latitude in deciding how to do things. You might come up with clever ways of improving existing solutions by reducing complexity. It's not just about buying a part and putting it on, it's about looking at a particular problem and asking yourself "can I make something groundbreaking here?"

Requirements

Qualifications & Experience

• A degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics or a related field

• Experience with electrical system design, analysis and optimisation

• An understanding of electrical design for production

Bonus Experience

• Experience with electric vehicle drivetrains.

• Experience of lithium battery systems.

• Experience of vehicle based, or shore based EV charging systems.

• Knowledge of servo motors and drive systems.

• Harness design

• Hands on electrical experience.

• Proficient in Eplan

• Proficient in data analysis using Python

• General experience within the marine industry
