About the role / Mō te tūnga

As a Senior Project Manager, you will work closely with and support the SSFC team, and wider MCP when required, to deliver projects that will improve the lives of New Zealanders. You will work with teams in an agile environment. The work you lead will include developing and implementing epics with roadmaps, project plans, implementation plans, and evaluation and monitoring regimes as required to ensure our initiatives are delivered in a timely and professional manner.

You will assist the Programme Manager to manage the implementation of business development initiatives by supporting the project management process and contributing to continuous improvement of the team.

You will also engage at a strategic level with key stakeholders and will provide support, advice, coaching and mentoring to staff within the team to help increase our capability in delivering successful projects.

To be considered for this role you will have:

  • Extensive experience in a project management role, ideally within the public service sector
  • Experience leading multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring alignment with business goals, budget and time
  • Proven decision-making experience and leadership skills
  • Collaboration with cross-functional teams including service design, communications, operational policy, and procurement and contracting
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and reconcile financial data and information
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to communicate at team and management levels
  • Strong risk and issues management
  • Regular communication with stakeholders to provide updates on progress, milestones and challenges
  • Knowledge of both agile and waterfall methodologies
  • The appetite to promote continuous improvement in the team
  • Sound relationship management skills both internally and externally
  • Proven leadership, and the experience of guiding and mentoring junior project managers and team members.
