The Fisheries Verification and Operations Directorate incorporates Fisheries New Zealand's (FNZ) electronic monitoring, fisheries observer, and aquaculture and fisheries permitting functions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Manager Electronic Monitoring by leading a team of Electronic Monitoring Video Analysts.
  • Participate in the audit process of fishing industry practices and assist with verification services for Fisheries New Zealand, Fisheries Compliance, and the Department of Conservation.
  • Lead and manage the operational delivery of the On-board Camera Programme by reviewing On-board Cameras footage.
  • Train and mentor direct reports to provide high-quality assurance services and embed a continuous improvement culture.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Experience in operationally managing staff including recruitment, development, workforce, and task management.
  • Deliver workstreams on time, through others.
  • Work efficiently with minimal supervision, lead projects, and mentor team members.
  • Experience in managing personally private and commercially sensitive information.
  • Prioritise workload based on customer needs and programme requirements.
  • Knowledge of New Zealand's fish and aquatic species, and a strong understanding of the Fisheries Act and other applicable regulations is desirable.
  • Ability to build and maintain successful relationships and a drive for continuous improvement.
