Mō te tūranga - About the role

As an SME Lead Network Engineer in ANZ's Techops IT Networks, you will play a pivotal role in guiding operations and providing consultancy on projects, fostering collaboration and shared knowledge across teams. You will support and mentor solution designers and engineers, enabling their growth through knowledge sharing and coaching. In this role, you will advocate for consistent infrastructure operations, standards and designs, while nurturing the development of other engineers within the team where needed.

The role requires expertise in enterprise cloud connectivity, supported by a strong foundation in designing and maintaining Cisco fabric, data centre technologies, switching, routing, and security layers. Collaboration is central to this role, fostering teamwork across technical and project domains. It emphasises empathetic leadership and knowledge sharing, creating an environment where insights and expertise are exchanged to drive success and impactful outcomes.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  1. Support consistent infrastructure operations, standards, and quality design practices, ensuring compliance with bank-wide standards and aligning with performance and availability requirements.
  2. Oversee Cisco Fabric to support ANZ critical applications with specialised requirements, implement security overlays and collaborate as the technology stack lead to ensure resilient and dependable operations.
  3. Proactively identify and address technical, architectural, and process risks and opportunities throughout the build, design, and run phases, maintaining the integrity and health of the platform.
  4. Foster strong relationships with stakeholders and delivery partners, understanding customer needs, anticipate future directions, and collaborating closely with Technology Areas to provide guidance and support to stakeholders and end-users.
  5. Develop proof-of-concept work, peer reviews, and the creation of Solution Architecture and detailed design documents, ensuring adherence to bank standards.
  6. Enhance cloud networking capabilities, leveraging expertise in cloud routing to ensure smooth and efficient integration with the broader network ecosystem.
  7. Promote a culture of continuous improvement, empowering your team to grow and thrive while promoting trust, collaboration, and a supportive environment.
Ōu Pūkenga? - What will you bring?

To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:

  1. Proficiency in Cisco Fabric and Cisco Datacentre technologies, including network routing, switching, security and DCNM fabric management application.
  2. CCIE level of expertise.
  3. Hands-on experience in enterprise scale network design, build and configuration projects, supported by your knowledge of DevOps practices.
  4. Network as Code concepts using Ansible Automation is desirable.
  5. A deep understanding of Network Security Layers and DMZ concepts, ensuring robust and thoughtful control over network access and security.
  6. Practical exposure to cloud networking across AWS, GCP, and Azure, and expertise in cloud routing.
  7. Exceptional interpersonal skills for building collaborative partnerships with Technology Teams, engaging vendors effectively, and ensuring solutions are assessed and validated with care.
  8. Ability to tell the narrative, provide resolution debriefs, and effectively engage senior leadership to explain key developments and outcomes.
  9. Experience mentoring and guiding teams in an enterprise environment to deliver outcomes aligned with strategic direction.
  10. A talent for communicating the benefits and opportunities for improvement within approaches, taking into account team strengths and organisational priorities.
