Aberfeldy School is a small, well-resourced rural school in an idyllic setting 25 minutes from Whanganui. We are a close-knit school catering for both rural and urban tamariki.

We are looking for a passionate, dedicated and experienced teacher who is looking to grow their leadership skills.

To support you in your role as a teaching principal, there is a 0.3 principal release teacher, a dedicated, experienced team of support staff, and an engaged, supportive Board of Trustees.

Our school is part of our local Rural Cluster group which provides collaborative learning opportunities including EOTC, as well as the support of the teaching and management staff of these like-minded schools.

A 3-bedroom schoolhouse, set within our picturesque, peaceful valley, is available for the principal, and there is also a school pool.

The qualities that we are looking for in a principal are:

  • an effective practitioner who has experience in multi-level classroom teaching and sound curriculum knowledge
  • to be visible within and beyond the school gate to maintain and strengthen relationships with our school community
  • to lead by example by being an approachable, open communicator with staff, students, and whānau, whilst upholding our school values
  • to be passionate about engaging learners through individualised programmes that draw on student strengths in authentic, culturally responsive contexts
  • someone who is kind, caring, and has a great sense of humour
