Job Details:

As a Principal Test Engineer (Test Lead), you will be responsible for driving planning and execution of key projects Verification and Validation (V&V) activities across New Zealand for Cubic in the Automated Fare Collections domain.

You will lead planning and execution to ensure high quality software and system performance. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, you will provide technical leadership, mentor testers, enhance testing frameworks, and drive defect management plans to align with global best practices.

You will report to the New Zealand V&V Manager who reports into the Global V&V organization.

Job Summary: This position will be responsible for identifying hardware & software defects and inconsistencies in functionality against defined performance measures and to progress and verify that the system meets and conforms to the System / Sub-System requirements and solution design documents. This role is responsible for the technical planning, coordination and conduct of test activities at the system level across all projects. This incumbent will interface with Central Computer and Device software development, System Integration testing, Project Engineers, System Deployment, hardware engineering and production engineering to develop system requirements analysis, system configuration data and automated test activities to ensure required system performance and reliability standards are designed in and verified. The essential function is to drive design, development and test activities from the system requirements view. This position typically works under minimal supervision and direction. Incumbents of this position will regularly exercise discretionary and substantial decision-making authority.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop test plans and procedures aligned to system and subsystem requirements
  • Develop test cases and scenarios to perform functional and non-functional (performance, capacity, stress, load, and stability) testing
  • Conduct dry run of test scripts and formal testing to verify system stability and functionality prior to formal Systems Acceptance Testing (SAT) and customer witnessing
  • Conduct regression testing to ensure system has not regressed after software updates and changes have been made to the system
  • Work independently on projects
  • Lead a program of work, working closely with Principal Engineers and Project Managers
  • Be the Test SME for multiple projects/domains and the go-to for test expertise
  • Defect tracking and resolution
  • Develop Test Plans (Both Functional and non-Functional)
  • Prepare and issue system test reports
  • Responsible for system integration activities, and maintaining configuration control in the test environments
  • Work closely with business architects, system developers and engineering staff with regard to development of test deliverables, system functionality and issues
  • Work closely with business architects, system developers and engineering staff in preparation of test cases and test scripts
  • Work with external/internal clients or consultants, architects, system engineers, carefully managing requirements, expectations and delivery of agreed outcomes
  • Appropriately escalate unresolvable issues to engineering management
  • Coordinate task estimation for feeding into cost models and project schedules for existing programs and new bids
  • Highly proactive identification and assignment of test and operational issues and help in resolving them

Minimum Job Requirements:

Qualifications

Essential:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent, preferably in Science or Engineering
ISTQB Foundation Certification

Desirable:
ISTQB Advanced Certification
Project/Program Management Certification (e.g. PRINCE2)

Skills/Experience/Knowledge

Essential:
Minimum of 8 years' experience within a systems test, software testing and processes environment in large projects.
Experienced in writing of SQL queries and oracle databases
Detailed knowledge of the various aspects of system and software testing processes
Familiar with word processing packages
Familiar with planning tools
Experience in using test management tools to develop, write and editing of test plans, test cases and test scripts
Experience in using defect tracking tools
Excellent Communication, Documentation and Record Keeping skills a must

Desirable:
Experience within the transportation sector, Automated Fare Collection Systems, or financial sector.
Experience with ticketing systems and/or public transportation operation.
Experience with Test Automation frameworks and/or Java programming
