Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is dedicated to serving all New Zealanders.

About the Role

The Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU) has an exciting opportunity for a Nurse Educator to support our growing team with recovering a wide variety of patients from a range of anaesthetics and surgical procedures/interventions.

Reporting to the Perioperative Nurse Manager, you will provide nursing leadership in clinical practice, act as a resource for new staff orientating to the area, and provide educational opportunities for staff within the cluster. You will lead nursing education and promote research and evidence-based practice within our service.

We have a Dedicated Education Unit (DEU) that provides support to our Nurse Entry to Practice (NetP) and Registered Nurses new to the specialty.

About the Service

Our service provides postanaesthetic support to 13 different surgical specialties, which also includes both a paediatric and obstetric component. We send staff to work in outlying areas of the service as part of a small multi-disciplinary team.

About You

Your enthusiasm for clinical education, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and expertise within adult learning will ensure success in this varied role. You will also be self-directed with great initiative and have excellent time management and organizational skills.

Your accessible and supportive nature will find you acting as a highly valued resource for both new and existing staff, making you an excellent asset to our growing team.

You will be someone who has a passion for adult education, has some exposure in this area such as, but not limited to: preceptorship, in-services or classroom-based teaching experience, and a desire to develop this role and your own capability to meet the needs of the service.

If you are a Registered Nurse with extensive, recent clinical experience and a passion for PACU, then we would love to hear from you.

  • Currently hold or be working towards a certificate in adult teaching and/or a relevant postgraduate qualification in nursing.
  • Registered with the Nursing Council of New Zealand with a current Annual Practising Certificate (APC).
