Our company specialises in Construction, Manufacturing, Maintenance, and Repair services to the Agricultural and Timber Industry based in Gisborne, New Zealand. McCannics has been operating for over 40 years and currently has over 60 employees with modern facilities and equipment.
We are currently looking for Fitter Welders for our engineering department. This position guarantees 40 hours per week.

A Fitter Welder's job is to combine the skills of a fitter and a welder to assemble, fabricate, and repair metal components and structures. This involves interpreting blueprints, welding using various techniques, and fitting metal parts together. They also perform maintenance and repairs on machinery and equipment.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Interpreting Technical Drawings: Fitter Welders must be able to understand blueprints, schematics, and other technical documents to plan and execute their work accurately.
  2. Welding: They use various welding techniques (e.g., MIG, TIG, arc) to join metal parts.
  3. Fitting: They accurately position and align metal components to ensure proper assembly and fit.
  4. Fabrication: They may cut, grind, and shape metal to create or modify components.
  5. Maintenance and Repair: They diagnose and repair faults in machinery and equipment, often involving welding and fitting.
  6. Safety: They adhere to safety protocols and use appropriate protective gear.
  7. Quality Control: They ensure that finished products meet quality standards and specifications.
  8. Technical Proficiency: Understanding of welding techniques, metallurgy, and engineering principles is crucial. Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications is essential.
  9. Problem-Solving: They need to be able to troubleshoot issues and find solutions during fabrication and repair.
  10. Precision and Accuracy: Candidate must have 2 or more years of experience.
