Te Whiwhinga mahi - The Opportunity - Head of Active Modes

This role will lead, motivate and empower a team to deliver sustainable modal travel behaviour change programmes and initiatives across Tamaki Makurau. As an internal and external champion you will help AT to communicate the need for active modes infrastructure and behaviour change as an integral part of our transport system.

You will lead a team of specialists focused on helping to improve the efficiency of the transport network by growing active modes journeys to schools, workplaces, higher education, major events venues and to/from public transport.

You will help to coordinate delivery of travel behaviour change into places where changes to land use, active modes network improvements or public transport service improvements provide new opportunities, and into existing communities where lots of short trips are concentrated.

Key Tasks include:
  • Planning, monitoring and reporting delivery of programmes with your direct reports.
  • Developing and maintaining a high-performance culture with your direct reports and their teams.
  • Representing Active Modes in the Senior Leadership team of the PTAM directorate.
  • Working with AT media and marketing teams to publicise and promote active modes.
  • Providing responses to enquiries from the public, media and elected representatives.
  • Representing Auckland Transport when working with colleagues in Auckland Council, NZTA and other strategic partners.
  • Identifying and enabling new opportunities for joint working with colleagues across the business to grow active modes and PT use.
  • Working with the Active Modes Planning Manager and Cycling Programme Manager to plan and prioritise investment in walking and cycling infrastructure.
  • Working with the Design Review Panel, capital programme leads and project managers to ensure that safe and convenient access for active modes is integrated into scheme planning and design for major projects.
Minimum Requirements:
  • A tertiary degree qualification (BA, Post Grad) in a business, communication or transport planning discipline.
  • 10+ years in people leadership & delivering engagement, transport planning or event programmes.
  • Public administration/communication.
  • Agile Adaption.
  • Complex stakeholder engagement in public sector.
  • Sustainability or transport programme management.
