Bethlehem College is a non-denominational, co-educational Christian college (Y1–3), located in the sunny Bay of Plenty, committed to providing Christ-centred education that helps young people grow in faith, character, and academic excellence. We are seeking a passionate and dedicated literacy enrichment teacher and coordinator to join our learning support team on a part-time, fixed-term basis for terms 2–4 in 2025.

A willingness and ability to take part in religious instruction appropriate to Bethlehem College shall be a condition of appointment.

About the Role

This role involves designing, delivering, and leading a targeted Literacy Enrichment Programme for Y7 and 8 students. You will work collaboratively with the learning support and classroom teams to provide differentiated, engaging instruction tailored to students requiring additional support in spelling, reading fluency, and comprehension.

We Are Looking for Someone Who:

  • Has a clear sense of calling to Christian education
  • Holds a registered teaching qualification and a current practising certificate (essential)
  • Has experience in learning support or literacy enrichment
  • Demonstrates strong skills in differentiation and instructional design
  • Possesses excellent interpersonal, organisational, and communication skills
  • Is willing to grow in te ao Māori and support the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the college's special Christian character in all aspects of the role
  • Screen and identify learners based on assessment data and prior placement results
  • Develop and teach engaging, tailored literacy lessons in alignment with the NZ curriculum
  • Monitor and report on learner progress with clear improvement goals
  • Maintain regular communication with teachers, parents, and whānau
  • Collaborate closely with the head of learning support, SENCo, and Y7–8 staff.
