Otolaryngologist at Te Whatu Ora - Health New Zealand Tairāwhiti, Gisborne
  • Gisborne Hospital, Permanent Full time
  • Working as an Otolaryngologist in Gisborne, NZ offers the unique opportunity to make a significant impact on a tight-knit community while enjoying a balanced lifestyle in a beautiful, coastal region.
  • Join our team in Gisborne, where you can enhance your medical career in a supportive environment, offer expert care to a close-knit community, and enjoy the work-life balance of living in one of New Zealand's most picturesque and peaceful coastal regions.

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is committed to building a health system that serves all New Zealanders.

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Otolaryngologist who is a transformational leader; providing clinical expertise to deliver quality care for our region.

Turanganui-a-Kiwa (Gisborne) is a small city of 50,000 people located in the first place to see the light in the world. The area is rich in natural beauty, surrounded by world class surf breaks and enjoys a Mediterranean climate. This is a place for those seeking a more laid back lifestyle with access to outdoor activities at the doorstep.

The 100 bed hospital is staffed with senior and junior doctors and does the basics well. More complex, critically ill patients are cared for at a tertiary centre.

The successful candidate will be part of a team of three Otolaryngologists who are working collaboratively to provide high quality care and to improve equity and health outcomes for the Māori and Pasifika populations. The team is supported by a Clinical Nurse Specialist and Audiologist.

You will see the full range of patients in this role and perform a variety of procedures such as endoscopic sinus surgery, middle ear surgery, facial skin cancer surgery, and paediatric ENT procedures. All major head & neck surgery is currently carried out at Waikato Hospital. In this role, you will assist with the education and supervision of surgical staff and medical students.

There are ample opportunities to develop subspecialist interests that will complement the department's current service, with high levels of community unmet need. We enjoy good collegial relationships with other departments, allied medical health professionals and close links with tertiary services. The department is well equipped for all aspects of modern ENT health care.

At Gisborne Hospital, you will become part of a close-knit supportive team that values work-life balance and embraces the thrill of practicing medicine in a vibrant community. Our 100-bed facility offers a full spectrum of specialties, providing you with diverse and engaging opportunities for professional growth.

About you

As an outstanding team player, you'll have the energy to make a positive difference with both patients and colleagues alike. In addition to enjoying a challenging and varied workload, you can look forward to a competitive pay rate and a culture where staff are included, valued and respected for their expertise. You must have completed your specialist training to make you eligible for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand. An attractive remuneration package, relocation assistance, and CME allowance is on offer.

Immigration | MCNZ Support

You will be provided a personal contact within our recruitment team to support you with the immigration and Medical Council of New Zealand processes.

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is dedicated to ensuring excellent healthcare for the people of New Zealand. We embrace a workforce that is diverse and inclusive so that we are better positioned to understand and service our community. We welcome applications from our diverse Māori, Pacific, disabled, and rainbow communities.
