He angitūtanga: The opportunity

Auckland Council's Health, Safety & Wellbeing department has an opportunity for a Contractor Safety Manager. This is a critical role for council and will focus on leading a team supporting an organisation-wide initiative to offer subject matter expertise in the development and implementation of the Contractor Safety Management Framework, including an ongoing maintenance programme.

Your other key responsibilities will include:

  • Building strong relationships and working closely with internal and external stakeholders across the organisation and supply chain.
  • Collaborating directly with the Contractor Safety Project Lead to ensure the framework meets the needs of all participants.
  • Providing technical and operational support to council and supply chain partners to meet Health, Safety, and Wellbeing (HSW) duties and standards.
  • Training and coaching senior managers, Project and Contract Managers, and other relevant functions across council on HSW responsibilities as defined by the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015.

This highly specialised role is crucial for the successful delivery of comprehensive projects, and is pivotal in ensuring the health, safety, and wellbeing of contractors, their employees, volunteers, and others involved. Your expertise will directly contribute to creating a safer working environment and upholding the highest standards of safety and compliance.

We will be looking for specific experience with the key role requirements:

  • Technical knowledge and expertise regarding contractor safety management, and occupational health, safety and wellbeing.
  • Framework development, implementation, planning and prioritisation skills – at enterprise level.
  • Experience in leading a high performing successful team.
  • Ability to develop and lead effective partnerships.
  • Ability to effectively communicate across a wide audience.
