Job Description

About the position

The Optical Technician is an entry level position. Our aim is to professionally grow and develop the employee to be a key member of the KiwiStar Optics team.

You will be responsible for:

  1. Assisting the fabrication of optical components
  2. Reviewing project specifications, requirements and drawings.
  3. Ensuring specifications are met and confirmed through test and measurement.
  4. Designing and making tooling for manufacture of optical components.
  5. Assisting in the alignment, assembly, integration and testing of opto-mechanical assemblies.
  6. Maintaining local records (workbooks) of manufacturing. Generate reports and records in accordance with company standards.
Desired Skills and Experience

About You
You are result-oriented with attention to detail. You are a good communicator and team player with practical engineering ability. You will be required to lift weights up to 20 Kg, so need to be physically capable.
Note that we are also seeking experienced Optical Technicians so if more appropriate to your skills and experience, look out for that advert or apply for this role and we will consider you for the more senior position.

Experience:

  1. At least one year experience in an industrial or mechanical manufacturing environment.
  2. Any experience with optics will be well regarded.

Qualifications:

  1. NCEA Level 3 equivalent with achievements in Math, English, Physics is the minimum requirement.
  2. Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Engineering is desirable.
