We have an exciting opportunity for a Category Buyer to join our Generation team at Mercury This newly created role is part of our transformative procurement journey, offering the chance to make a real impact on how we manage and optimise purchasing within our Generation business.

As a Category Buyer, you'll be at the heart of our procurement operations—ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in purchasing activities. You'll work closely with internal stakeholders, suppliers, and procurement teams to align purchasing with business objectives, maximise supplier relationships, and drive cost efficiencies.

Key Accountabilities:
  • Monitoring purchase requisitions for accuracy, approval workflows, and compliance with procurement policies
  • Ensure procurement activities align with established supplier panels and category strategies
  • Maintain documentation and records to support audit and compliance requirements
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings, process improvements, and risk mitigation within assigned categories
  • Collaborate with internal teams, including maintenance, operations, and finance, to understand procurement needs
  • Support initiatives for automation, digital tools, and enhance procurement and purchasing practices
We are looking for:
  • Relevant buying experience in an Operational, Manufacturing or Maintenance environment
  • Proven experience in purchasing and procurement environments
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret data and implement actionable strategies
  • Excellent organisational and project management abilities with the capacity to prioritise tasks effectively
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners
  • Knowledge of purchasing best practices, forecasting techniques, and supply chain principles
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and data integrity
