It's an exciting time as the team is leading out its eMedicines strategy, starting with Automated Dispensing Units (Pyxis). Our team is committed to continuous improvement and excellence in healthcare services. We are looking for a Clinical Lead Pharmacist to join our leadership team and provide strategic direction and clinical supervision to our pharmacy department.

Rotorua/Taupo hospitals offer a variety of clinical pharmacy services across medical, surgical, older person health, mental health and paediatric areas as well as dispensary services to 233 beds. Our service has an amazing collegial relationship with surrounding districts (Taranaki, Waikato, Bay of Plenty and Tairawhiti), working collaboratively to standardize practices.

The Clinical Lead Pharmacist provides professional and clinical supervision to the pharmacy team, ensuring optimal use of staff and resources to deliver quality patient care. This role coordinates closely with other team leaders. As a key member of the leadership team, you will offer strategic leadership to the department's clinical services, working across all Directorates. This role requires strong clinical knowledge, positive role modeling, and an awareness of clinical governance and legislation to optimize patient care through quality improvement and strategic direction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical and professional supervision to the pharmacy team.
  • Coordinate the team's efforts to ensure efficient and effective patient care.
  • Lead quality improvement initiatives and strategic planning for the department.
  • Ensure compliance with clinical governance and relevant legislation.
  • Develop and promote clinical leadership and engagement within the team.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, trust, and transparency.
About You
  • Previous pharmacy operational management and leadership experience.
  • Experience in a leadership role within hospital pharmacy.
  • Registered Pharmacist with a current Annual Practising Certificate (APC) or eligibility to obtain one.
  • Deep commitment to achieving excellent clinical and business outcomes based on quality service delivery and outstanding patient care.
  • Capacity to develop and promote clinical leadership and engagement.
  • Ability to develop an organizational culture based on collaboration, trust, and transparency.
  • Commitment to biculturalism and achieving equitable outcomes for Māori.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification.
  • High-level leadership, supervisory, or management experience.
  • Proven ability to lead and implement strategies for service improvement.
  • Understanding of current developments in hospital pharmacy services in New Zealand.
  • Good organizational skills and excellent written, oral communication, and interpersonal skills.
Successful Applicants Must
  • Be a NZ Registered Pharmacist or eligible to register soon.
  • Be willing to participate in Oncall roster (about every 6-8 weeks).
Salary Range

$117,420 - $122,570 pro rata to hours worked (as per the MECA Designated B banding)
