Senior Advisor - Policy at Land Information New Zealand, Wellington

We are looking for a motivated policy practitioner who has experience working on large legislative reforms and/or partnering with Māori.

As a Senior Policy Advisor, you will provide leadership on, and analytical rigour to, complex policy problems. You will utilise the range of tools in your kete to provide practical and evidence-based advice. This role will provide an opportunity to apply your skills to a diverse set of policy areas as part of a legislative reform. We are a close-knit policy group that works across a broad range of policy issues, and this role also provides an opportunity to develop knowledge and skills in new areas.

This policy role sits within the Strategy, Policy and Ministerial function that is responsible for driving our overall strategic direction and delivering on our policy work programme. Our three policy teams work collaboratively, so in addition to policy projects, you will get the opportunity to work alongside colleagues in strategy, regulatory stewardship, and research.

We have an exciting work programme that provides an opportunity to contribute to real change for Aotearoa New Zealand. Our work is delivered across four key pillars – Overseas Investment, Property Rights, Geographic and Property Information, and Māori and Crown Land. We are responsible for 15 pieces of legislation including the Public Works Act, the Crown Pastoral Land Act, the Land Transfer Act, and the Ratings Valuation Act. LINZ is also the regulator of the Overseas Investment regime.

  • You will have a minimum of 4-5 years of policy or related work experience.
  • Previous experience partnering with Māori on policy projects and/or working on large legislative reforms.
  • Passion for contributing to social, cultural, economic, and environmental outcomes.
  • Be analytical and have critical thinking skills to apply to a range of complex work.
  • Can communicate complex issues clearly and succinctly.
  • Be agile and willing to work across challenges big and small.
  • Have experience working collaboratively across teams, and building relationships with subject matter experts and stakeholders.
  • Be willing to contribute to the development of the team's capability and culture.

The expected appointed salary for this role is $105,000 - $123,000 per annum depending on experience.
