A key part of the editorial process, you will oversee the production of video news content for 1News, shaping and sub-editing the journalism we produce each day. This role drives editorial excellence in the newsroom, producing compelling coverage while ensuring 1News reporting is fair, accurate, and balanced.

In this role, your focus will be on:

  • Identifying and developing fresh story ideas for 1News.
  • Assisting with the writing and structuring of stories, or taking full responsibility for doing so, if required.
  • Championing creative treatments and looking for alternative ways to report stories where we can, and resources allow.
  • Providing guidance on original and compelling ways to progress a daily story drawing on diverse sources.
  • Delivering quality, well-produced stories on time, to duration, and being mindful of available resourcing.
  • Communicating story requirements to reporters and crews and coordinating their activities.
  • Maintaining a flow of information about story development and legal or ethical issues to the newsroom.

We are looking at hiring two producers.

To excel in this position, we seek candidates with the following qualifications:

  • A qualification and recent journalism experience; video news production experience is a plus.
  • A strong understanding of media law and editorial standards.
  • Organizational skills and knowledge about what resources are required to produce a story across both broadcast and digital platforms.
  • Strong relationship-building skills and confidence to make editorial decisions.
  • Calm under pressure.
