Are you a Radiation Oncologist looking for a new opportunity?

About the role and team:

We are dedicated to providing international best practice in the field of radiation therapy using state-of-the-art technology. The department has a wide-bore CT-simulator, 4 Varian Truebeam linear accelerators each with a six degrees of freedom couch, and a new orthovoltage unit. The department uses the RayStation treatment planning system and the MOSAIQ patient management system. There are well established and accredited IMRT, VMAT, DIBH, IGRT, and SBRT programs. Our department is developing satellite radiation treatment units in our region (Hawke's Bay and Taranaki) which will be operational in the next few years to ensure our patients can access radiation treatment as close to home as possible.

You will be part of a team of Radiation Oncologists with a variety of specialist interests in all adult malignancies. The department requires the applicant to work as a general Radiation Oncologist although there are opportunities to develop an area of subspecialty cancer interest.

The department is well supported with currently four registrars in training posts which will increase to five next year, specialist nursing staff, and a psycho-oncology service. We practice in collegial partnership with Medical Oncologists, Haematologists, and Palliative Care Physicians. There is a strong culture of multidisciplinary meetings and an active clinical trials portfolio.

The Regional Cancer Treatment Service covers a wider area including Hawke's Bay, Whanganui, Wairarapa, and Taranaki with a total population of over 600,000. The Regional Service includes Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, and Haematology. Some travel is required in order to service the region and we regularly utilize telehealth to support our regional work.

About our organisation:

The facility is a 350-bed hospital in the city of Palmerston North, Manawatū, a city in the Lower North Island of New Zealand. Palmerston North is a secondary hospital and offers most medical and surgical specialties with the exception of Cardiothoracic, Plastic, and Neurosurgery. Employing over 2500 people, we offer a supportive work environment that accepts and values all employees.

What can we offer you?

  • Real work-life balance
  • A diverse, dynamic, and collegial team environment
  • Ongoing training and development opportunities
  • Six weeks annual leave per annum
  • 10 paid days per annum available for continued medical education including a generous allowance towards costs of course and travel
  • Generous relocation packages for national and international candidates

About our region:

Manawatū is known for its effortless blend of city and rural living; here you can choose your ideal lifestyle, from peaceful rural villages to bustling townships or city life.
