Manager Infrastructure – Central
This is a leadership opportunity, building on a strong foundation, to lead the continued evolution of a collaborative team culture, developing our people, delivering on strategy, and making everyday better for the communities that Beca serve. You will have scope to make a difference through leading a team that delivers innovative, sustainable, and complex critical infrastructure projects and outcomes, as well as through developing others' technical, delivery, client engagement, and professional capability.
You will be part of the New Zealand Mobility & Precincts leadership team, leading a diverse and vibrant Infrastructure Business in the Central region of New Zealand, building on their track record delivering critical infrastructure and related projects for this region. These include the Mackays to Peka Peka, and Peka Peka to Ōtaki expressway extensions for NZTA, and Kāinga Ora's housing upgrade programme in East Porirua. The team are currently delivering the Ōtaki to North of Levin expressway for NZTA and Wellington Airport's Apron Development Programme, as well as recently being announced as a panel member for the Hawke's Bay Expressway.
Te whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
You will be able to apply your values-based leadership to lead our collaborative team culture, with a focus on developing others and enabling delivery of complex transport and infrastructure projects throughout the region. You will have the autonomy to build on our existing strategy with support from the Mobility & Precinct leaders in the team – each who are experienced leaders with Beca and in the region. Together with the other Mobility & Precinct Section Managers and the Operations Manager, you will be part of a Leadership Team connecting and leading our New Zealand business. In addition, you will be supported by the broader Beca specialists and experts across multiple disciplines, as well as the local market and client leaders and the Central regional leadership team.
In this role, you will have plenty of variety, challenge, and reward with no two days being the same. You will be leading a team of 35 talented engineering, design, and delivery professionals based in Beca's regional hub of Wellington, and with teams supporting the local markets in Palmerston North, Hawke's Bay, and Nelson. Together, this team delivers complex transport and infrastructure projects with clients in a broad cross-section of Beca's key markets across Aotearoa and the Pacific including critical infrastructure in the roading, aviation, energy, water, and climate resilience-related sectors.
You will be working with leaders and team leaders to promote career mentoring and technical development, retention, recruitment, and ensuring that the team has the right balance of skills, experience, and abilities across all career levels from graduates through to Senior Principals. This role will include working collaboratively with our key market leaders understanding our clients' current and future project requirements. In addition, this role will involve working with other Managers, supporting the business through the adoption of new ways of working resulting from Beca's investment in Enterprise System Implementation projects currently underway.
Mōu ake | About you
You will be excited by and enjoy varied and broad roles, with this role providing plenty of scope for success to make a real difference for this team, this practice area, and influencing the delivery of great client outcomes. Experience or a strong affinity with the infrastructure sector will be important in this role. You will also have demonstrated experience and skills in creating positive business relationships, operating with credibility in a leadership role, being collaborative, with the ability to work across a multi-discipline business.
You will have people leadership abilities, known as a leader who 'sets the bar' in terms of culture and professionalism. You will inspire a positive working environment, and you will know how to guide, develop, challenge, and inspire other professionals with experience in 1:1 development-focused conversations across all career levels and stages. You will enjoy a challenge, be action-focused, display the ability to balance competing time commitments, and be comfortable with making commercial decisions. You will have (and be ready to develop) broad management skills across strategy implementation, operations, workflow delivery, financial management, and have a strong understanding of employment issues from a people leadership perspective.
You will be a leader who is highly organised and people-focused who will:
- Bring a true passion for Beca's people and clients, displaying and role modelling the values of making and keeping commitments, and holding others accountable to do the same.
- Be strategic and innovative in your thinking; a visible leader who inspires others with your vision and strategy.
- Bring excellent collaboration and delegation skills, which sees you engaging with others to support and empower the team to achieve client and business objectives.
- Further develop broad general management skills across strategy, operations, delivery, and commercial management.
- Be open to building strong networks across Beca's wider Mobility & Precincts business and the Central region, including working with geographically remote teams.
- Be available for some regional travel as required, especially to invest time in the regional offices building relationships with the team and our local clients.
This role may suit candidates from a broad range of backgrounds and career stages, with the role having scope to be full time, part time, or have flexible working arrangements. Experience in a people leadership and/or business management role would be an advantage; however, the role could also suit a delivery, technical, or client-focused individual who is looking to expand their career into people leadership and business management. We invite applicants from a broad range of backgrounds.
