  • Role is in the Vocational Rehabilitation team based at Burwood Hospital
  • Hours of work are Monday - Friday, between 0800 - 1630

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is dedicated to serving all New Zealanders. Through integration and collaboration, we are rebuilding a health system underpinned by partnership, equity, sustainability, whānau-centred care, and excellence.

About the Role

At Burwood Hospital, the Occupational Therapist in Vocational Rehabilitation works together with the client, their employer, GP, other treatment providers, and whānau to make their recovery and return to work a safe and sustainable process. Vocational Rehabilitation meets the client and their employer at Burwood and onsite at their workplace and prepares a structured rehabilitation plan with an aim towards a clear return to work date. Vocational Rehabilitation provides a work-specific functional programme and monitors the client's rehabilitation journey to achieve the best outcomes for our clients and their employers.

The role includes the assessment, education, and provision of techniques, strategies, and technology to support people currently in employment to return to work or remain at work. The people generally referred will have acute neurological impairments.

We are looking for an Occupational Therapist to join our team on a full-time permanent basis.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Providing comprehensive assessments, evaluations, and treatments in accordance with policies, procedures, and standards of practice for Occupational Therapy.
  • Educating and providing resources to clients and their employers around the return to work and recovery process.
  • Ensuring appropriate documentation and patient records are updated and maintained.
  • Contributing to quality service provision within the Vocational Rehabilitation service, the Occupational Therapy service, and the wider Burwood site.

About You

Experience in working with people who have had a neurological event would be of advantage. The successful applicant will have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to work effectively with clients and employers, as well as:

  • Ability to complete thorough assessments and flexibly integrate interventions using problem solving and robust communication while being led by your client's goals.
  • Organised, with effective time management.
  • Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori or a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth.
  • You will be a New Zealand registered Occupational Therapist with a current annual practicing certificate (or ability to obtain one).
