We are fostering an engineering culture built on collaboration, trust and belonging. Our passion lies in delivering tailored solutions for our customers, directly supporting ANZ's purpose to "shape a world where people and communities thrive".

The Senior Engineer guides the design, development, and management of our API Gateway and Eventing solutions to enable seamless and scalable integration platforms.

  1. Empowering platform teams to break down roadmaps, ensuring effective delivery and execution while mentoring engineers to foster innovation and growth.
  2. Building enterprise-grade integration platforms, such as API gateways and event-streaming solutions, while leveraging expertise in system administration, DevOps, infrastructure architecture, and software development.
  3. Applying extensive knowledge of cloud computing, infrastructure-as-code, automation, observability, and microservices architecture to enhance platform performance.
  4. Ensuring the highest standards of code quality through rigorous testing, peer reviews, and best practices.

Role Location: Auckland or Wellington

Role Type: Permanent, Fulltime

Ka aha tō rā e kite ai? - What will your day look like

As a Senior Engineer in our Integration Platform team, you will guide the design and implementation of advanced API gateway solutions. Your role will encompass empowering teams, driving development, and overseeing operations to ensure seamless and scalable integration across our multi-cloud environment:

  1. Mentorship & Strategy: Guide and contribute to API Gateway development (Kong, Kubernetes) in alignment with business goals while mentoring teams and fostering innovation.
  2. Platform Development: Architect scalable, secure API solutions and leverage event streaming technologies (Kafka) for real-time data processing.
  3. Collaboration: Work with cross-functional teams to design integration solutions and enhance platform performance.
  4. Operational Management: Provide hands-on technical support and oversee platform operations, incident management, and governance, ensuring stability and security.

Ōu Pūkenga? - What will you bring?

To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:

  1. Expertise in software development and mentorship, specializing in the setup and operations of Integration/API Gateway platforms (e.g., Kong) and Event Streaming technologies (e.g., Kafka).
  2. Proficient in programming languages (e.g., Java, NodeJS, Python), CI/CD pipeline tools (e.g., Codefresh, GitHub Actions, Jenkins), and multi-cloud environments (on-prem, AWS, GCP, Azure).
  3. Comprehensive knowledge of Kubernetes (OpenShift, EKS), network architecture, API security best practices, and enterprise integration patterns.
  4. Skilled in designing solutions, creating high-quality documentation, and ensuring operational excellence, including platform management, incident resolution, and governance.
  5. Experienced with observability tools (e.g., Dynatrace, Splunk), driving system reliability, and mentoring teams to uphold code quality through rigorous testing and best practices.
  6. Holds a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

You're not expected to have 100% of these skills. At ANZ a growth mindset is at the heart of our culture, so if you have most of these things in your toolbox, we'd love to hear from you.
