General Salary Range – Band A: $158,916 to $186,209 depending on skills and experience
About the Role - Kōrero mō te TūrangaThe National Manager Prosecutions & Support provides leadership and management of MPI's prosecutions, including prosecutions undertaken by counsel outside MPI, and infringement processing.
There are three teams which you'll lead – two prosecutions teams, and an infringement team, each of which have a team leader. The greater focus of this role is to support the prosecutions teams. This role will also provide leadership to two employment lawyers, and support staff who are responsible for the likes of staff delegations and gazette notices.
You'll regularly liaise with and support compliance directorates across MPI, as well as provide support to MPI's People and Capability Directorate, as needed. You'll be responsible for leading your teams in such a way that it's engaged, forward looking and striving for improvement, and ensuring collaborative relationships with others at MPI are maintained and productive.
About You - MōuWe are looking for an experienced prosecutor who ideally has leadership experience. You will have the ability to provide solution-focussed leadership advice, with options for managing any legal risk identified. You'll possess excellent stakeholder engagement skills and a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues to build and maintain effective professional working relationships with clients across MPI.
Experience in an agency with regulatory responsibilities is desired, but not essential. As some travel to regional offices is required, you must have a current full New Zealand driver licence (not temporary, learner, or provisional) or equivalent full foreign drivers licence, and any endorsements required for the type of driving you'll be doing. You do not need to meet all the role requirements to apply. We offer a breadth of development and learning opportunities and will welcome an application if you think you could make a great fit.
About the Team - Mō tō mātou RōpūThe prosecution teams are responsible for the provision of operational legal advice and prosecution services on an array of matters where non-compliance is detected. Whilst the most common areas are Fisheries and Animal Welfare, it would not be unusual to also work across the Biosecurity, Forestry, Food and Wine sectors, and that's just in one day No two days are alike in this role, and the depth and breadth of the prosecutions work is fascinating and fulfilling.

Low level Security Clearance - most preferably a New Zealand citizen, who has resided continuously in New Zealand for at least the last five (5) years, OR is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last five (5) years: either Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom (UK) or the United States of America (USA); and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at this level.
