Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity
This role is for a specialist paediatric anaesthetist wanting to contribute clinically to care across the full spectrum of surgical disciplines in children, excluding paediatric cardiac surgery.
In addition, we have a busy out-of-theatre workload including radiology, interventional procedures, and radiotherapy whilst also delivering day-case surgery to our local community on a separate site.
This workload is increasingly supported by a pre-assessment service and a dedicated acute pain team.Specific time is provided within the role to support non-clinical activities, and members of the team are active locally, nationally, and internationally in teaching, education, quality improvement and research.
The Department of Paediatric Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine is responsible for the management of approximately 11,000 cases per year through 7 operating rooms at Starship Children's Hospital plus additional operating room sessions at a separate day surgery facility, Greenlane Surgical Unit (GSU).
A further 1,500 patients are anaesthetised for procedures outside the Operating Rooms which include MRI, CT, Cardiac Investigations, radiotherapy and other radiology procedures at various locations at Starship Children's Hospital and Auckland City Hospital.
A successful applicant would join a team of 25 Consultants, 4 Fellows and 7 Registrars at the leading provider of tertiary paediatric care for New Zealand and the South Pacific.
