A bit about our service and team:

We are dedicated to provide international best practice in the field of radiation therapy using state of the art technology. The department has a wide-bore CT-simulator, 3 Varian Truebeam linear accelerators each with a six degrees of freedom couch, 1 Siemens multi-modality linear accelerator due to be replaced with a Varian Truebeam in the near future and a superficial X-ray unit. The department uses RayStation treatment planning system and MOSAIQ patient management system. There are well established and accredited IMRT, VMAT, DIBH and IGRT and SBRT programs. Our department is the first in New Zealand to be developing satellite radiation treatment units in our region (Hawke's Bay and Taranaki) which will be operational in the next few years to ensure our patients can access radiation treatment as close to home as possible.

You will be part of a team of seven Radiation Oncologists with a variety of specialist interests in all adult malignancies. The department requires the applicant to work as a general Radiation Oncologist although there are opportunities to develop an area of subspecialty cancer interest.

The department is well supported with currently 3 registrars in training posts which will increase to 4 later this year, specialist nursing staff and a psycho-oncology service. We practice in collegial partnership with Medical Oncologists, Haematologists and Palliative Care Physicians. There is a strong culture of multidisciplinary meetings and an active clinical trials portfolio.

The Regional Cancer Treatment Service covers a wider area including Hawke's Bay, Whanganui, Wairarapa and Taranaki with a total population of over 600,000. The Regional Service includes Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology and Haematology. Some travel is required in order to service the region and we regularly utilise telehealth to support our regional work.

Applicants must be eligible for registration and recognition as a Radiation Oncologist with the Medical Council of New Zealand, as well as having demonstrated clinical, management and teaching skills and the ability to work effectively within the multi-disciplinary team.
