The opportunity


We are looking for two exceptional Nursery Workers to help support the revegetation of our public parks by contributing to the planting of 65,000 native plants and 36,000 annual plants for the displays and collections at Auckland Botanic Gardens.

The botanic garden alone gets over one million visitors per year And are proudly working towards gaining accredited under the NZ nursery biosecurity scheme to ensure that the plants grown at the Gardens do not spread pests and disease.


This role is suitable for someone looking to build on their previous nursery experience to develop within the Horticulture industry.

This is a part time, seasonal role ending early December 2023.

Key responsibilities:

  • Potting up seedlings
  • Weeding pots
  • Watering, growing and maintaining plants
  • Maintains accurate records of nursery activities
  • Comply with Council's health and safety policies in order to maintain a safe environment for staff and visitors

About you


If you have the passion for working outdoors, are physically fit and happy to get your hands dirty no matter the weather then this is the contract for you It would also be beneficial if you had some previous nursery experience and have an interest in native plants and growing plants.

What we offer

The nursery is a small team of 3 staff, supported by several keen volunteers that help us each week. We contribute to the wellbeing and vibrancy of Auckland, providing places for everyone to enjoy the outdoors


This role is deemed safety sensitive and in line with Auckland Council policy, you will be required to complete pre-employment drug and alcohol testing.
