The purpose of the Technical Authority (Control and Instrumentation) /Principal Engineer Control and Instrumentation role is to provide technical leadership as an advanced specialist within their discipline across Contact Generation and Trading The role has a strong emphasis on implementing improvements in technology and processes to support the reliable, efficient, economic, and safe operation of Contact's Generation assets.

This role will report into the Head of Technical Excellence but as a Principal Engineer there is a requirement to form and maintain collaborative relationships across Contact's technical domain and provide leadership and mentoring of others.

Job Description:

Reporting to Head of Technical Excellence, you'll be responsible for Control and Instrumentation Engineering activities across Contact's fleet.

  • Act as a Principal Engineer for the Control and Instrumentation Engineering team you will deliver engineering support, oversight, and advice to Contact's fleet.
  • Lead, direct, mentor and motivate Discipline Engineering Team staff and assist the Leadership to plan for future succession needs for the Discipline.
  • Act as Contact's deep Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Control and Instrumentation Engineering, taking ownership of relevant companywide Standards/Procedures, integrating them into the overall technical management system, ensuring they meet best practice, and training and advising other Contact staff in your SME area.
  • Hold and discharge Technical Authority (TA) responsibilities as defined in Contact's Technical oversite system to manage Low and Medium technical risks. In addition, you are to prepare yourself to undertake EA (Engineering Authority) responsibilities_. _
  • Lead or support project Business Cases including preparation and delivery of CIC Papers and Board Papers.
  • Utilising your Technical Discipline Group to:
  • Agree Engineering Standards in their area
  • this would be internal Contact Standards where required, as well as mandated and approved external standards. This will include development of clear Owners Technical Requirements for any new-build or significant modification activities
  • Review System Health across the sites to determine any areas of excellence for replication or common challenges which require a fleetwide approach and prioritisation for resolution.
  • Proactively review resource demands across the sites to identify how cross site resource could be used to provide a more effective and efficient input and outcome
  • Monitor fleet Control and Instrumentation system configuration and status in accordance with Contact's Asset Integrity and Safety Life Cycle Standards and ensure Management of Change processes is followed rigorously.
  • Strong focus on Contacts behaviors and Tikanga to inspire and others in G&T. Providing support and leadership at Technical User Groups and forums.
  • Contribute to the strategic development of the team and discipline and assist in development of staff.
  • Deliver a high, consistent level of customer service to key stakeholders and assist G&T/Major Projects leadership with strategic decision making.
  • Identify opportunities and undertake improvement of systems and processes, supporting business change initiatives.
  • Undertake leadership role in conception and development of new plant systems, techniques, and business processes.
  • Represent Contact in internal and external forums.
  • Travel to gneration sites on a periodic basis will be required
  • Other duties as required and agreed upon.

  • Demonstrates independence from the business operating line when providing engineering advice which is best for Contact inc.
  • Assemble and manage technical staff to match the needs of the business now and into the future.
  • Able to identify materiality of information to decision at hand and deal with associated ambiguity while moving forward. And be able to lead others through complex problem solving with novel and efficient solutions, cognisant of the impact that their decisions will have on other parts of the business/business units.
