ABOUT THE ROLE

Waipuna Hospice is looking for a passionate and energetic person to join our team as Kaiwhakamaru; which means the ' "the protector of tūroro in our care"

Reporting to the Director of Clinical Services, The Kaiwhakamaru role will provide awhi & tautoko for tūroro Māori and their Whānau as well as engage in opportunities to increase knowledge of Mātauranga Māori with the wider Waipuna Hospice whanau. We are looking for someone with established relationships with M ā ori networks (marae, hapu and iwi) and can bring personal knowledge skills and experience to the policies and practices of Waipuna Hospice.

This exciting opportunity is suitable for someone with experience in the health or education sector, or similar. A high level of knowledge of te reo me ōna tikanga and working knowledge and experience in Te Tirirti O Waitangi and Tikanga Māori is required. As well as excellent communication skills you will have a background working with people from diverse socio-cultural backgrounds.

With a strategic focus, this role is part of an interdisciplinary team and will enhance Waipuna Hospice service delivery to M ā ori patients and wh ā nau through contributions to care delivery / case management, education, cultural support to staff, policy development and quality activities. Our Kaiwhakamaru will support ongoing links with local, regional and national Māori community groups.

ABOUT YOU

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • High level of knowledge of te reo me ōna tikanga
  • Tertiary Qualification in Māori, Social Sciences, Education or similar
  • Experience in the Health or education sector or similar
  • Experience facilitating groups / meetings
  • Managing conflict
  • Developing therapeutic relationships
  • Ability to manage multiple and at times competing priorities
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
  • Commitment to Interdisciplinary Team work

ABOUT US

Waipuna Hospice provides specialist medical care for patients living with a life-limiting illness, and support services for them and their families. Our geographical area covers Waihi Beach to Paengaroa and while our focus is on Hospice at Home, we have an Inpatient Unit for short term admissions and provide Outpatient Services. These services are funded through DHB contracts, fundraising and income from our second-hand retail stores.
