What You will be Doing
This casual position is to assist with animal husbandry and in the collection and processing of standard biological samples in all areas of the teams research.
Using standard parasitological methods to conduct relevant research, the team is focused on providing evidence-based recommendations to the New Zealand farming industry to sustainably manage livestock parasites.
The position comes under the guidance of experienced technicians and scientists in the Parasitology team.Your Ideal Background

Relevant Tertiary qualification: a Diploma or bachelor's Qualification would be an advantage but is not essential

A keen interest in learning laboratory and field technical skills

A proven capability to learn new skills is essential

Documentation and communication skills must be to a high standard

Skills in trouble shooting and quality control are desirable

The role will involve processing and curation of large sample sets over multiple weeks. It is an important and integral part of the position to have organisational skills and attention to detail is vital

Animal work will be required, such as assisting in collecting samples from farm and experimental animals. Feeding and checking animal welfare. Knowledge / experience of farming, including work experience with livestock handling and husbandry, would be an advantage. Training and ethical approval sign-off will be provided

Ability to work without direct supervision as and when required.
