About the role
Te Tari Pūreke regulate the Arms Act to promote and control the safe possession and use of firearms. We're modernising how we do this by introducing new ways to improve regulatory outcomes and service experience.

To support this, the Arms Supervisor will provide leadership and management of regulatory compliance and deliver a high-quality service the public deserve and expect.

Your leadership will build a culture of high performance which results in teams that are inclusive, innovative, agile, and passionate in meeting ASC outcomes.


Managing the firearms licensing team, you will be responsible for managing all national performance indicators, managing and prioritizing firearms safety functions, delivery of training, support and implement change management practices to ensure process and legislative compliance.

You will also oversee workflow management ensuring effective NIA case management practices including tasking and coordination.

Christchurch Justice Precinct

Key Accountabilities:

  • Team management and looking after our people
  • Lead the daytoday operational functionality of the Arms Team
  • Ensure efficient, effective and legislatively correct service delivery, to maintain regulatory compliance
  • Lead the practice of PHPF within Arms Teams
  • Develop a culture based on the core values of the NZ Police encouraging diversity, and creating an environment where everyone can thrive
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with District ASC workgroups, and relevant internal and external Stakeholders.
  • Use interpersonal skills and effective communication to provide regulatory advice to licence holders.
  • Be adaptable to ongoing change

  • Experience or an understanding of how to deliver administrative functions within legislation requirements and organisational policy
  • Experience in leading staff operationally and administratively utilising valuesbased leadership that fosters a positive team environment
  • Good computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft 365. This role requires the use of the Police National Intelligence Application (NIA). Experience with this is useful but not required, as on the job training will be provided.
  • Able to learn independently, selfmotivated, and is adaptable to change to keep up to date with regulatory and technological updates
  • Excellent time management and multitasking skills and the ability to work in a busy environment with frequent interruptions
  • You can demonstrate building relationships and partnerships (internal and external) to build trust and confidence and information is shared effectively.
This role is set at

Team Leader/Manager level, this means your key purpose is "to lead the activities for Our Business and enable people to deliver them."
