Mō te tūnga | About the role
In this role you will be supporting our tāngata (the people we support) in long term residential accommodation.
Our tāngata are usually over the age of 16, have an intellectual disability and are unable to be supported in their own home.
They lead busy, active lives which may include attending day services classes, formal functions, gym classes, swimming and visiting whanau.
You will be joining a supportive, professional and diverse team who make a significant impact on the quality of life for our tāngata.
The team work with kindness and respect where great emphasis is placed on effective communication and support amongst our team, they truly understand the benefit of a 'community' of care.
Our full-time positions are 80 hours per fortnight, our part time positions range from 26 to 32 hours per fortnight.

There are many reasons to consider this role; You may have significant life experience which you believe will have a positive impact on others; you may be tired of manual labour and looking for something more fulfilling; you may be retired or now able to work around other whanau commitments or you may be still be studying and just starting out in your career.

Your skills will include:
- Working with diversity
- A wide range of communications skills
- The ability to provide and receive respect
- The ability to set goals and work towards them
- An understanding of disabilities and assessing of abilities (advantageous)
- Prior experience with manual hoist/support of high wheel chair users (advantageous)

Te Whariki Whakaruruhau is the Te Roopu Taurima (TRT) model of service that recognises the intrinsic value and relationship of tangata (people we support), their whanau and kaimahi (staff).
As a kaupapa Maori service we strive to make a difference in the lives of tangata by surrounding them with a caring environment based on Maori values of respect and whanau.
The service appeals to a wide range of people of different ethnicities because of TRT's philosophy of accepting and valuing all cultural practices.
