Mō Tēnei Tūranga Mahi - About the Role


The prime purpose of this role is to work with Māori learners to identify and address key factors that will enhance their experiences at Ara so they stay engaged and are successful at Ara.

This includes helping to clarify the needs that will assist them to be successful and supporting activities delivered to enhance success.

This will include positively engaging with and responding to enquiries from learners and their whānau.


The Kaitaunaki will work alongside Māori learners, academic and support staff as well as community agencies to establish and/or reinforce Māori learners support networks whilst also facilitating activities and events that provide engagement opportunities for Māori learners.


Ngā Pūkenga Me Ngā Wheako - Skills/Experience

  • Experience working with Hapori Māori (Māori communities and organisaions) including a high degree of awareness to the needs and aspirations of Māori learners, their whānau and community.
  • Good communication skills especially listening and questioning.
  • Experience in coordinating and implementing kaupapa Māori informed initiatives
  • Proficiency in te reo and tikanga Māori or developing capabilities in order to provide culturally responsive services.
  • Awareness of the academic, career and pastoral needs of tertiary students.
  • A collaborative working style whilst able to work independently.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills
  • Experience organising events and projects, particularly those underpinned by kaupapa Māori frameworks and models.
