Wellington Regional Hospital is seeking an Cardiac Electrophysiology Fellow for an exciting role in a major teaching hospital, providing specialised tertiary level care to the central North Island, comprising a population of 1 million people.

The successful applicant will acquire expertise as the primary operator in all arrhythmia procedures including cardiac device implantation, electrophysiology studies and ablation.

Procedures are undertaken in a large, purpose-built EP laboratory.

We have 3D mapping capability (Carto), and provide a full suite of electrophysiology interventional procedures, including ablation for complex atrial and ventricular arrhythmia, pulmonary vein isolation, and ablation in adult congenital heart disease patients.

We use both radiofrequency and cryoablation technology.
Device work will include brady-pacing (including Micra), ICDs, CRT, sub-cutaneous ICD implants, and physiological pacing.
Our unit comprises of two Electrophysiology SMOs and three additional pacing SMOs. We perform approximately 600 devices and 330 ablations per year. The Fellow will spend approximately eight sessions per week in the laboratory and two sessions in SMO-led outpatient clinics. Work will also include in-patient arrhythmia consultations and management.
The Electrophysiology fellow is an integral part of the electrophysiology and cardiac rhythm management service. You will interact with a group of highly motivated individuals in a friendly working environment.

The Wellington Cardiology Service provides secondary and tertiary
care for a population of about 1 million. Patients treated by the department on
a secondary level are domiciled in the Wellington Region, Porirua basin and
Kapiti Coast.
Tertiary referrals are accepted from the Hutt Valley, Palmerston
North, Mid Central, Wairarapa, Whanganui, Hawkes Bay and Nelson-Mralborough
districts. All modern cardiac services are represented - except cardiac
transplantation and complex paediatric procedures.
The Cardiology department includes, outpatient clinics, including
specialist outpatient clinics at Wellington, Hutt Valley, Kenepuru, Kapiti and
Whanganui hospitals, a rehabilitation service and a range of diagnostic
monitoring services at Wellington and a Cardiac Care Unit for acute cardiac
assessment and management.
Day cases are managed in the Interventional Recovery Ward,
adjacent to the cardiac catheter suite.
Moū - About you

  • Vocationally registered in Internal Medicine with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ)
  • FRACP or equivalent qualification and be able to register for with the MCNZ
  • Background training in a recognised Cardiology training program
  • FRACP written and clinical exams or equivalent, and preferably
completion and approval of the RACP advanced training in Cardiology

  • Work in collaboration with multidisciplinary team
  • Able to provide consistently high standards of medical care
