Wellington, Wellington, New Zealand Talent Army Full time
Ruby on Rails & AWS stack

  • Well established agency with instantly recognisable clients
  • Hybrid working with a Wellington CBD office
  • We are looking for a Web & Platform Developer with strong Ruby on Rails and AWS experience. You'll join a technically astute team in a collaborative studio working on a range of exciting digital products.
  • A leading local agency is looking for an experienced Software Engineer sitting in their Web & Platform team, developing the foundation of each digital experience the company creates. This is one of the most active teams in the company that has some exciting projects coming up so they're looking for someone who likes solving problems and working in a tightknit dev team.
  • This digital agency has been around for over ten years, and is driven to put people first and create the best digital experiences for its clients.
This is the sort of person we're looking for:

  • You're a backend developer with a DevOps mindset. You strive to, or have already found a way to automate the routine and repeatable parts of web and platform development.
  • You can work with less experienced developers to help them learn the best ways of doing things, and you're always happy to lend an ear to bounce ideas off.
  • While the role is focused on web and platform as a core discipline, we encourage all developers to expand and maintain skills in other disciplines to help build understanding and share the load.
  • Our stack is primarily Ruby, and Ruby on Rails. We're looking for someone who already has experience with both Rails, and architecting and operating solutions built on AWS or other public cloud platforms.
  • You have a keen eye for the guidelines, standards, best practices, and are keeping yourself up to date as the industry changes and evolves to bring these techniques to your work.
Here is a sample of what you'll be doing:

  • Implement well-structured, stable, and understandable software that meets the intended requirements and visual design.
  • Ensure your code considers the security, privacy, and integrity of users and their personal data. You raise any concerns about outofdate technologies, potential ways the product could be misused, cause harm, or have security vulnerabilities.
  • Ensure that platforms, databases, and any other related technologies are maintained and kept up to date.
  • Ensure that client infrastructure is developed and maintained in line with modern DevOps practices.
  • Inspire those around you to always improve what it means to build great software and digital products.
  • Balance technology and time constraints with a solid technical foundation designed to support the long term needs of the product.
  • Participate in sprint planning, review, and retrospective sessions with a view to continuously improve our approach and set clear expectations with clients on the progress of delivery.
