CADS (Community Alcohol and Drug Service) has recently taken up the Smokefree services to help Aotearoa achieve its Smokefree 2025 Action Plan.

CADS is the largest Alcohol and other Drugs (AOD) service in New Zealand working with over 15,000 people each year.

CADS is committed to empowering the community and promoting recovery and wellbeing.

Our Smokefree Service aims to provide a supportive service that is personalised and aligned to the needs and goals of our people, and their own Smokefree journey.

The opportunity

Our Smokefree Practitioner Māori positions will work in partnership to contribute towards the development of quality improvement systems and practices which will support Māori to access high quality evidence-based smokefree services, which meet the needs of Māori, across our hospitals and our mental health and addiction services in Auckland and Waitematā.

It is essential you are comfortable engaging with Māori and their whānau and are able to advocate for processes which will enhance Māori health gain.

Smoking cessation experience would also be beneficial, however more important is the ability to learn and develop in this regard, as full training will be provided.

This is an exciting opportunity to become a full time or part-time Smokefree Practitioner and join our team to help us re-establish and create the best Smokefree service possible for the Waitematā district.

The roles will be based at the North Shore Hospital, Waitakere Hospital and CADS - Pitman House.

What we are looking for

We are looking for people with a genuine commitment to the community we serve and a passion for helping our whānau Māori to achieve their smokefree goals as well as the smokefree aims of Te Whatu Ora Waitematā.

You will be self-motivated, reliable, able to work autonomously, a team player with great collaboration skills and a 'can do attitude'.

As a Smokefree Practitioner you will be able to motivate and empower people from all backgrounds and support them to achieve their smokefree goals.

You will be required to work with a wide variety of healthcare professionals and providers to improve the reach and delivery of Smokefree services for Māori.

Ideally, you will have had experience working within community, primary or secondary health settings and will be philosophically aligned to our Te Whatu Ora, Waitematā values

Essential:

• Recognised tertiary health qualification
• Knowledge of population health issues and their relation to the individual and whānau
• Previous experience working with Māori.
• An empathetic, caring, patient nature and a strong ability to relate to people from diverse backgrounds
• A strong desire to achieve the best health outcomes for our community and whānau
• Training in coaching or counselling of wellbeing, behavioural change or addiction

Desired:

• Ability to converse in Te Reo Māori
• Smoking cessation experience or ability to learn and develop
• Experience in a clinical setting
