Ōtorohanga District is embracing a period of growth and development, with huge opportunities to strengthen our vibrant District and ensure prosperous and thriving communities that residents can continue to be proud of.

Our Strategic Planner reports to the Group Manager Strategy & Community and is at the forefront of helping to shape the future of the District by taking the reins of producing key Council documents, including the Long Term Plan (LTP), Annual Plan, and Annual Report.

You will also lead engagement and consultation with our community, Councillors, iwi, and other agencies to ensure their voices are heard in the development of strategies and policies.


In order to this, you will need:

  • Experience, understanding and a passion for local government, the democratic processes and community
  • Project management skills with an ability to juggling multiple schedules and anticipate roadblocks before they occur
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills with a cooperative and inclusive approach to building and maintaining effective relationships
  • To be an impact player ready to join an awesome team


This is an exciting role that involves translating strategy into real life action; turning a mission and purpose into something usable, relevant and actionable that everyone can relate to.

You will be able to combine logical thinking with innovative, out-of-the-box ideas to find solutions to complex challenges our community and organisation face.
