Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
We are looking for an experienced Clinical Psychologist with clinical skills, expertise and knowledge in the assessment and treatment of transgender and non-binary young people seeking gender affirming medical transition options during puberty and beyond.
The role provides clinical psychological assessment of new clients, psychoeducation and support for young transgender and non-binary people and their families/ whanu over their transition, and to support decision making processes with the paediatric endocrine team regarding treatment options, participating in the Endocrine Transgender Multi- Disciplinary Team.
The Psychologist provides clinical assessments to clients, and their families / whanau, who have been referred for gender affirming medical transition options to support their gender transition, including conducting detailed psychological assessments, formulation and psycho-education.

This role works alongside the Paediatric Endocrinologists in Child Health on level 2 Te Wao Nui and a close working relationship with the Clinical Psychologist in the Adult Endocrine Department.
We have an interdisciplinary team of Paediatricians, nurses and allied health staff in the Children - s clinics providing outpatient consults, assessments and treatment for paediatric medical and surgical patients.
Dietitians physiotherapists, occupational therapists and Speech language therapists all provide an outpatient service with an MDT approach where possible. Services are also provided at Kenepuru Child health.Paediatric orthopaedic, ENT, Ophthalmology and Anaesthetic clinics are also delivered on Level 2.
Moū - About you
We are seeking and experienced Clinical Psychologist with an interest in working with Transgender and non-binary children and young people, to work in partnership with young people and their whanau.
We aim to provide a high level of expertise in assessment of referred transgender cases, providing information and support for young people and their whanau during their transition process and treatment.
The Successful applicant must be registered with the NZ Psychologist Board (clinical scope) and hold a current practicing certificate.Essential Expertise in general child, adolescent and family mental health across the developmental spectrum
Preferred:
Expertise in gender identity development, gender diversity in children and adolescents, the ability to assess capacity to assent/consent, and possess general knowledge of gender diversity across the life span.
Expertise in autism spectrum disorders and other neurodevelopmental presentationsKnowledge of national and international guidelines/standards of care for gender affirming health care.
