This is an exciting step for a dedicated and motivated nurse who is eager to take the next step within clinical leadership.

As a role model within the service you will find yourself engaging with nursing staff and members of the multi-disciplinary team to ensure effective relationships are developed and maintained.

The forensic service provides specialist care for people who, as a result of mental illness, have seriously offended or are assessed as high risk for serious offending.

We are looking for an Associate Charge Nurse Manager to join the Forensic mental health service, working a rotating (4 day on/2day off) roster of morning and afternoon shifts.

In this professional and clinical leadership role, you will effectively contribute to the ongoing development of nursing practice and the professional nursing workforce within the service.

This role has a function that is both clinical and operational, therefore you will have excellent clinical credibility as well as an ability to ensure the operational objectives are carried out in line with the Waitaha Canterbury vision.


As a positive role model, you will be working collaboratively with the Charge Nurse Manager, Clinical Nurse Specialist and nursing staff to promote a high standard of consistent, professional nursing practice that is contemporary, and patient focused.

Along with your proven ability to lead, you will be an expert at developing and extending nursing practice, assisting with performance appraisals, auditing, quality improvement and providing overall clinical expertise and mentorship within the team that will enable them to continue to deliver a high standard of care.

In order to be successful in this role, the following is required:

  • Registered with the Nursing Council of New Zealand with a current APC and mental health scope;
  • Extensive experience working within any area of mental health;
  • Have a relevant post graduate qualification, or be on the pathway to securing one;
  • Possess a depth of clinical nursing knowledge and leadership ability;
  • Selfmotivated, flexible and solutionsfocused;
  • Be an excellent communicator and a natural people person;
  • Impeccable timemanagement skills and process driven;
  • The ability to work autonomously and within a team.
