About The Role:

Shipping Operator


As a key function within the Supply Chain, Shipping is responsible for the procurement and management of shipping capacity, for the supply of New Zealand kiwifruit to meet offshore market demand, on both Chartered Reefer Ships and Liner Container Services.


Annually, these activities result in the export of over 700,000 tonnes of kiwifruit using both Container Liner Services and Specialized Reefer Ships, to over 55 countries world-wide.


Reporting to the Shipping Operations Manager, this role is responsible for overseeing the creation and ongoing maintenance of the charter (specialized reefers) shipping schedule to Zespris key markets.


Accountabilities:

  • Creation of a full season Charter Schedule market specific.
  • Oversee entry of the plan into SAP Transportation Management system.
  • Coordinate with planning and market teams to optimize the New Zealand regional shipping programme.
  • Review and update weekly reporting of shipping schedules to the industry stakeholders.
  • Maintain close communications with Carriers and Market Operations Managers over the shipping plan.
  • Participate in weekly operations meetings with the markets and develop and maintain customer relationships to a high standard.
  • Financial processes associated with the Shipping department, including checking charter freight payments and validate vessel deviation costs to regional ports.
  • Ad hoc Analysis and Reporting for the Shipping Manager.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years' experience in a logistics related role.
  • Tertiary education is desirable.
  • Shipping industry experience is highly regarded.
  • Strong IT skills are essential (SAP, Excel).
  • Effective negotiation and communication skills.
  • Excellent Analytical capability.
