The opportunity


Tāmaki Paenga Hira Auckland War Memorial Museum tells the story of Aotearoa New Zealand, its place in the Pacific and its people.


Applications are open for a new member to join the Auckland Museum Trust Board, a registered charity, for an initial term of two years from late 2024 to continue this important mahi.

About you


Key attributes for the role include:

  • Demonstrable ability to build and maintain relationships with corporate and philanthropic organisations
  • Connection and understanding of Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland's diverse communities, including experience in engagement and service delivery for the public good
  • Understanding of tikanga Māori with experience working with tangata whenua, iwi, Māori groups and organisations
  • Understanding of the Museum's core function as a War Memorial


Your leadership and guidance will support the Museum to be the home of our collective remembering and commemoration, and a compelling experience to inspire innovation, curiosity and learning, while also acting as kaitiaki of the heritage building, collections and taonga.

About Us

The Auckland Museum Trust Board was established by the Auckland War Memorial Museum Act 1996.

Four members of the Trust Board are appointed by the Auckland Museum Institute through a process involving collaboration with the other appointing bodies named in the Act - Auckland Council and the Taumata-ā-iwi.


The statutory responsibilities of the Board include oversight of the financial management of the Museum, along with the maintenance, management and development of the Museum and to support the delivery of the Museum's objectives.
