The Senior Data Analysis & Visualisation Lead role sits within the Ministry's Knowledge, Information and Analytics team.

The purpose of the role is to ensure that Ministry staff and other stakeholders have information and data at their fingertips, and can make evidence-informed decisions from authoritative and well-managed sources by leading the work to increase the Ministry's data reporting and visualisation capability.


This role is a specialist role, requiring deep data and visualisation expertise, coupled with extensive experience partnering with and influencing stakeholders to ensure business needs are met and enterprise capability grows.

You will have deep knowledge of and experience using best practice data management, reporting and visualisation tools, techniques and practices.

In the Senior Data Analysis & Visualisation Lead role you will:

  • Lead the organisational wide development and adoption of processes and standards to effectively visualise data
  • Partner with business stakeholders to develop a deep understanding of their requirements to enable solution design
  • Lead the development and delivery of specific data and analytics solutions
  • Ensure fitforpurpose acceptance testing and promote user adoption of solutions
  • Design and deliver data capability training and lead the operation of a data community

  • You will love visualising data so that it can tell stories that have real impact for users
  • Extensive experience with the development of data visualisations. Power BI skills are an advantage
  • Strong understanding of data and analytics concepts and experience gathering requirements for business intelligence
  • Highlydeveloped sense of the requirements of good governance and the need to adhere to sound processes
  • Experience in engaging with diverse stakeholders and supporting capability improvement
  • Experience with project management
  • Knowledge of Māori data governance would be an advantage
