Te Whatu Ora Waitemata Smokefree sits within the National Public Health Service.


This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a cohesive, motivated team, to create change and contribute to population health.


Our Smokefree Practitioners support kaimahi/staff and tangata whai I te ora/patients within the Waitemata region to deliver high-quality evidence-based smoking cessation support and interventions.

We are focussed on health equity and Maori and Pasifika tangata whai I te ora/patients and hapu Mama/pregnant women are our priority populations.


What we are looking for:

We are seeking a person with a commitment to the community we serve to help Waitemata achieve our aim of Smokefree Aotearoa 2025.

Ideally, you will be someone who can collaborate, yet work autonomously, and be reliable, motivated and passionate about health, recovery and wellbeing, as well as aligned to Te Whatu Ora, Waitemata values.


You will be required to work with a wide variety of health professionals and providers and ideally have experience working within a healthcare settings, preferably with smoking cessation experience, however, full training to become a Stopping Smoking Practitioner is provided.


Essential:

  • Recognised tertiary health qualification
  • Knowledge of population health issues and initiatives
  • Alignment with Te Whatu Ora Waitemata values and Te Tiriti o Waitangi
  • Willingness to learn on the job and participate in professional development

Desired:

  • Smoking cessation experience
  • Experience in a community, primary or secondary healthcare setting
  • Experience in health coaching, counselling, behavioural change or addiction
