About the role


You will be walking into an energetic environment where value is placed on delivering outcomes rather than micro-managing work and tasks.

You will be given autonomy to work in a way that gets the best results and will be expected to take responsibility and make things happen.

This role is based in our Sylvia Park Campus.

You will be teaching our Level 2 / 3 or 4 Certificate programme, and working with youth from 15-19 years old, giving them a chance to succeed in the education sector though a sport, exercise and fitness-based curriculum.


Some of your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Deliver NZQA learning objectives in a way that brings our curriculum alive for the student
  • Mentoring students and tracking/monitoring of our student success
  • Stay abreast of latest industry/teaching trends and recommendations
  • Meeting NZMA targets for student achievement and work placement
  • Relevant sport, exercise, and recreation Industry stakeholder engagement

About you


To be a Sports Tutor, you must have a tertiary qualification in exercise science or other related fields and relevant industry exercise in sport, exercise, or recreation fields.

You must have the ability to operate independently or as part of a team and be able to mentor young athletes and run sporting programs and academies.

You will describe yourself as an enthusiastic and motivated self-starter who has a passion for the sports fitness and recreation industries and have will have networks within the sport, exercise and/or recreation communities.


  • An ability to connect with tertiary students through creative, exciting and motivational delivery methods.
  • Sports and Recreation in NZ
  • Exercise Science/ Exercise prescription
  • Business for Personal Training
  • Nutrition
  • Be able to manage work placements

To be successful in this role you will need:

  • To use MSOffice 365 apps and our cloud based apps to manage planning, attendance, results, and outcomes
  • Develop and collate Literacy and Numeracy portfolios with students
  • Deliver sessions and assess student achievement against the New Zealand Qualification Framework
  • Adult teaching experience and holding the National Certificate in Adult Literacy and Numeracy Education (NCALNE) (Level 5) would be an advantage, however professional development will be offered
